Today my friend Kevin planned a bonfire consisting of some old friends from our Japanese 204 class. Masaki, To, Eric, Katrina, Stephanie, Anna, Marvin, and Tetsuji were there aside from Kevin and myself. Masaki started preparations for the curry first while we all sat around the little camp we made. The easy-up was slanted in an attempt to block the wind and we sat underneath it on top of various towels. We headed down to the water while the vegetables and meat were cooking and messed around for a bit. It was actually a pretty cold day to be at the beach, it was a good thing I brought pants to wear over my shorts.
To and I watched the others play some volleyball for a while before we all decided to play a game to see who could break the watermelon blindfolded. First up was To, she barely nicked it. Second was Kevin and he was so pro he only smashed the sand. Anna was the one that smacked the watermelon and cracked it open a bit. Kevin finished it off with another blow so we could all dig into its innards. OM NOM NOM. It was a nice juicy, sweet watermelon. The curry finished cooking shortly after we finished with the watermelon. We ate the curry in cups since there were no plates. It was a little spicy but not unbearably so.
We chilled for a while and some members of the group attempted to make our little camp warmer and more sheltered from the wind by digging holes to lower the legs into, making the easy-up even more slanted, and tying towels to act as a shield from the wind. It worked to some extent but I was on the end so I just covered myself in towels and blankets to keep warm. As it started to get dark the guys started building up the bonfire. We huddled around it while Kevin and Eric attempted to roast hotdogs with wooden sticks. Not the best idea I must say. Around five hotdogs ended up in the pit since the sticks would catch fire. The ones that survived tasted pretty good. The hotdogs were wrapped in bacon and cooked over the fire xD Talk about unhealthy. After hotdogs we had s'mores. Kevin made me a nice golden brown one. Everyone enjoyed hotdogs and s'mores around the bonfire for a couple hours and continued chatting even after we finished munching. We didn't leave until after 10pm.
It was an interesting day. I didn't really talk to anyone but To, Kevin, Eric, and Masaki since they were the only ones I was really comfortable with but I talked to Marvin a little. It was nice to see Tetsuji, too, since I haven't seen him in around a year or so.
So that was my day xD Or at least a summarized version of it. I was with To pretty much the whole time xD
