jogging adventure.
5/7/12 12:22 amOh man... So I started my run-twice-a-week exercise routine today. My friend Kevin was accompanying me. He runs three times a week already and agreed to run with me twice a week. I haven't run in over a year but I figured it's about time I started getting back into shape since I'm little more than a couch potato at the moment.
So we decided to run along Valley View from Orangewood to Chapman. Mom said to run from Valley View to Springdale but I got my streets mixed up. Same difference, though, right? I started with a semi-fast pace since I didn't know what a good starting pace was and ended up slowing down as we went on. I was getting ahead of myself, too, saying things like "I can walk faster than this." Of course I ended up eating my words, running yet even slower than I was before. Eventually I had to stop and rest. We had gone a little more than a quarter mile and I could not get up without blacking out. My head felt terribad and my legs were jello. My arms even started to go numb, my hand getting stuck in an I'm-holding-a-water-bottle position. I ended up having to let Kevin carry me on his back because I couldn't move. That didn't last long though either because I didn't have the strength to keep myself on his back. So he had me lay down on the ground so the blood could circulate through my body easier. I felt like a dead person at a crime scene; it was quite embarrassing. After a while the feeling came back to my arms and I felt well enough to walk on my own two feet without falling down. Once we started nearing the corner of Valley View and Orangewood, however, I started to feel really nauseous. At one point I even had to squat on the floor because I felt so nauseous I would throw up if I didn't sit and rest. Eventually the feeling passed and I was again well enough to walk. There were no more problems after that and we made it back home safely without any incident.
The whole time I was saying things like "Omg I can't believe this is happening to me," "I've never lost the feeling in my arms like this before," "This is terribad!" I overestimated my body's capabilities big time.
Despite all that happened and how bad I felt, I still found it oddly amusing. To me it was a hilarious turn of events. I've never felt so weak and sick that I couldn't walk on my own two feet before. I was, quite literally, helpless.
Next time we're going to start things off with speed walking. Jogging can wait until I have more stamina... That way Kevin won't have to worry about my passing out on the sidewalk :)
So, that was my retarded adventure of the day. Lul.
